SMS Privacy
What happens to your mobile number and to the record of your consent. Short, because the answer is short.
No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. Your number is used to send you the messages you asked for, and to prove you asked for them.
The commitment, in full
That is not a formula we pasted in to pass a review. It is the rule we operate on, and everything below explains what it means in practice.
What we hold about your number
- The number itself, and the name of the person it belongs to if you gave it.
- Which of the three message programs you joined.
- The consent record: the exact words you were shown, the box you ticked, the page or the call, the date and time, and what you were asking for at that moment.
- The messages we sent you and the ones you sent us.
- Any stop request: the word you used, the channel, and when.
What we use it for
- Sending you the messages of the program you joined, and nothing from a program you did not join.
- Answering you when you write to us.
- Proving, if a carrier or a regulator asks, that you agreed and when.
- Making sure a stop request is honoured and stays honoured.
Who ever sees your number
Messages come from +1 706 403 3251. Two kinds of parties ever see your number, and neither of them is a marketer.
- The people at MitHub who are working on your request or your process.
- The carriers and the messaging platform that physically deliver a message, which today means Twilio and the mobile carrier that owns your number. They cannot use your number for their own marketing. Handing your number to a carrier so a message can reach your phone is the delivery itself, not a sale of your information.
We also hand over information if a law or a valid legal request requires it. If that ever happens with your number, we tell you unless we are forbidden from telling you.
Employers do not get your number from us
If you are a candidate: your public profile never shows a phone number, and we do not put your number in an introduction to a company. If a company should be able to call you directly, you tell us so for that company, and then we pass it on. Otherwise contact goes through MitHub.
How long
- Consent records and stop requests: at least five years. The FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule requires records of express consent and of do-not-call requests to be kept that long, and a stop request is worthless if the record of it disappears.
- Message history: while your relationship with MitHub is live, and afterwards while we may still need it for records or legal reasons.
- If you ask us to delete everything, we keep the minimum that makes your stop request permanent: the number, the channel and the date. Nothing else.
